We still need a two volunteers to manage the door (take the spectators admission and sell raffle tickets as they arrive) and another to provide the hard working coaches and officials with refreshments during the gala.

If your children are swimming you’ll be there and will not miss any of the swimming. You will also save a massive £1.50 as you won’t pay the spectator admission !

Extraordinary meeting – Tuesday 6th September

Dear swimmers & parents,

As some of you will be aware we have been quite vocal in our requests for volunteers to assist in running the club over the past couple of years. In part this has been to enable us to improve some of the things we already do, but it was also to ensure a succession plan was in place to provide continuity as and when key volunteers were no longer able to offer their time.

Although a few parents and former swimmers have kindly stepped up to the plate over the past year or so the club now finds itself at a critical juncture.

Our head coach, Neil, has accepted a new opportunity within the fire service that requires him to work extremely extended shift patterns. This, together with the impending arrival of his first grandchild means that Neil will no longer be in a position to offer any substantial time to the club. This is a major blow as he has transformed all aspects of the club over the past five years to make us the leading competitive club in the district.

Our lead development coach, Daniel, will soon become a father for the first time. This new responsibility, together the demands on his time that it brings, will mean that the time that Daniel is able to offer the club will be severely limited.

Our treasurer, Claire Gelder, has accepted a new position at work that will involve an increase in travel requirements. This, together with an increased requirement to get her daughter to training with the city scheme will severely impact her ability to carry out her duties with club.

I tendered my resignation at last year’s AGM, but it was not accepted and I reluctantly agreed to stay on board for one last year. Having been actively involved in voluntary work with various sports clubs and educational establishments without a break for over 30 years it’s now time for me to make way for others to get involved.

All the above leaves some large gaps to fill if the club is to continue in its current form. The committee have therefore called an extraordinary meeting to discuss the issue and would request that everyone with an interest in the continuation of the club makes an effort to attend. More than ever, people that haven’t previously come forward need to consider what they can offer in terms of support.

The meeting is scheduled for 7:30pm Tuesday 6 th September at Eccleshill Football Club. In order to ensure that everyone can attend, training at Eccleshill pool has been cancelled for this session only.

Can we please remind everyone that the Club finishes this Friday the 22nd of July for three weeks this year. The first session back is Tuesday 16th August.
We will be holding a fun Mini Olympics Gala this Friday at the Uni. All squads are invited to this including Tong swimmers. The session starts at 19.00 hrs for everyone and is expected to finish between 21.00-21.30hrs.
There will be five teams representing different Countries with individual races and team races. Distances will be from 25m to 100m.
This is a great session to finish the season off and very apt bearing in mind the Olympics starts on Friday 5th August.
